Blending pop, R&B and electronica, 21-year-old Queensland singer-songwriter DOOLIE (Doolie Shadforth) is riding high after an extraordinary 2018 featuring on releases from Paces (‘Don’t Run’) and POOLCLVB (‘Freefall’) and performing live at festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Big Pineapple and Bleach Festival, as well as touring with Paces and guest performances (2018 Commonwealth Games) with the Gold Coast producer.
DOOLIE’s entry into the Australian music scene was triggered by her win at the Queensland Music Awards (2016) with her debut release, ‘Pristine’, and landed herself as a finalist in the Most Promising Female Songwriter category of the awards. She soon followed up with a second single, ‘Exhale’, and releasing the music video for the track at the same time. The song was short-listed in 4ZZZ’s Hot100 and the video, ‘Exhale’ shot by Brendan Williams, appeared on Mtv and received a Gold Award at the Australasian Cinematographers Society (ACS) awards in 2016.
Following on from her 2016/17 releases, DOOLIE traversed to dark-pop in her songwriting with a story of intimate revenge in her third single release: ‘KØLD’. Receiving ‘banger status’ by Vera Blue in a recent episode of PedestrianTV’s “Banger or Nah’, this song is darker than DOOLIE’s past singles and a standout track. The texture between the lyrics and melody in the song exude passionate emotion throughout, and with DOOLIE’s powerful higher register, it marks a progressive shift that shines through in her songwriting, further affirming her as an artist to watch.
From featuring with Paces and POOLCLVB in 2018, DOOLIE’s vocal prowess and songwriting has seen her carving her own niche on the music scene, making her an in-demand-artist, invited regularly to collaborate and co-write with key Australian producers, (Kilter, LO99, GXNXVS, ALIUS, XMPLR and more).
DOOLIE kicked off 2019 signing with one of Australia’s most respected indie electronica labels, etcetc music. The label released her debut single ‘2:20’, and swiftly followed up with second single, ‘Attention’ (released in August). Both songs were co-written with Melbourne producer GXNXVS (Lastlings, Banoffee, OKBADLANDS) and features Melbourne rapper Charlie Threads on ‘2:20’ and pop-rap duo China Roses on ‘Attention’. The works are a taste of new music that’s to come from DOOLIE since her 2017 single ‘KØLD’, which saw support from triple j, triple j Unearthed and Rage.
Since establishing her recordings career at the age of 17, DOOLIE has proven to be a great songwriter, a powerful performer, and an obvious talent with a bright future.
